Bocadillos San Francisco Exterior Decor

Bocadillos is a Spanish tapas bar in the San Francisco Financial district. Tapas are small plates of food that is meant to be shared. Bocadillos is run by Gerald Hirigoyen, who also owns the Basque restaurant Piperade. It opened in 2004 and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Organic, sustainable produce, dairy, meat, and fish are use whenever possible. We went for dinner. Lalola is another San Francisco Tapas place we went to recently.

Bocadillos San Francisco Interior Decor

Decor, Vibe – Stylish venue with lots of decorative lights, hardwoods, and bottles lining the walls. Several small tables, a long communal table, and counter seating. Folks were mostly in the 30’s and 40’s with many nearby financial district workers.

Picks:

Bocadillos San Francisco Prawns

Prawns with garlic flakes and lemon confit ($13) are cooked a la plancha. Nice quantity of prawns with lots of spices making them slightly salty. This dish can get messy as you will have to eat them by hand. Lemon confit seems like a useless addition.

Bocadillos San Francisco Wild Arugula salad

Wild Arugula salad ($10) with shiseki pears, walnuts, and valdeon came towered up on a small plate. Nice lite dressing, fresh fruit and nuts although more pear and cheese would have been nice.

Bocadillos San Francisco Patatas Bravas

Patatas Bravas ($8) with romesco sauce was a heap of super hot and freshly seasoned fried potatoes with an aoili based sauce. Very strong flavor on the fries that was more mild when quenched by the dipping sauce.

Bocadillos San Francisco Kefir Yogurt

Kefir Yogurt dessert with cacao nibs and honey ($7) was a beautiful little dish with a rich and sour yogurt. Honey and fruit helped accent the plain yogurt. Could have used more of the cacao seed nibs.

OK:
None

Pans:

Bocadillos San Francisco Warm Octopus

Marinated warm octopus with confit potatoes and piquillos ($14) was marinated with a very sour vinegary sauce that overwhelmed all flavors. Could not really taste the octopus or potatoes through the sauce.

Bocadillos had decent service with efficient order taking through food delivery. Prices on individual dishes are fair, but bills can easily run up fast at tapas places as ordering increases. They recommend 3 items per person, which can easily pass $30. The food was decent, atmosphere nice, making this a good bet if you want a drink and some small plates.
A short two page selection of wines by the glass from $7, bottles from $28.
