Decor, Vibe – A step up from plain jane Chinese restaurant decor. Red Lanterns on the ceiling, some Chinese art. Folks of all races were eating. Families, older folks, were all there. Live seafood tanks in the back.

Picks:

Silver House Restaurant San Mateo Salt baked Chicken

Traditional salt-baked chicken ($9 half) was very good. Nice sauce that was not too thick, fatty, or too salty. Nice tender chicken that works really well when dipped in the sauce.

Silver House Restaurant San Mateo Deep Fried Tofu

Deep Fried Tofu ($8.50) with mushroom sauce on the side. Nice looking chunks of fried tofu with optional sauce on the side. The sauce was pretty salty, so it was great the tofu was not slaughtered in it.

OK:

Silver House Restaurant San Mateo Gai Lan Vegetables

Gai lan vegetables with garlic ($8) looked like a mess, as presentation is not their strong suit. Quality and quantity of these veggies was good.

Daily Soup (Free) was pretty average but free! No heavy flavors.

Silver House Restaurant San Mateo Taro Dessert

Daily Dessert (Free) was taro and sago. Very sweet but free!

Pans:
None

Silver House Restaurant had fair service. They took the order fast, got us food, then left us alone for the most part. We had to hail for water, etc. The food is fairly priced and quality is decent, making this place popular. This is a safe place to go if you are looking for simple Chinese food in a informal location. Hit the top places in Millbrae for better Chinese food.
