Shanghai 1930 is a fancy Chinese restaurant and bar in the Embarcadero area. They focus on Shanghainese Chinese food and try to replicate Shanghai China in the 1930’s. They have free live Jazz Monday through Saturday evenings. We’ve eaten here several times and find the food expensive and average. Coming to the bar for Jazz, Cocktails, and some small nibbles is what we prefer to do.
Decor, Vibe – You walk downstairs to a sleek, sexy environment. The dimly lit bar has a nice blue background. Dinning room has many booths as well as some private rooms. Diners were mostly in the 30’s to 50’s range, well dressed, crossed all races, with some younger folks in the lounge.

Picks:
Dragon Tea ($9) with Wasabé Vodka, Zen Green Tea Liquor, fresh lime juice was a strong drink with heavy lime flavor and a hint of green tea.
OK:
Pan Crepes ($7) Stuffed with Red Azuki Bean Mélange, Service for two, were lightly fried egg crepes with some sweet bean paste filling. Decent, but not excellent. You should pay a little more and get it a la mode.
Pans:
None
Shanghai 1930 had good service with lots of servers roaming around. This is a nice place to go for a drink, some small plates, and free Jazz.
