McDonald’s recently rolled out three new Angus Third Pounder nationwide. We normally do not review fast food, but figured we would give this a try and report back. It usually does not matter which location we ate at as almost all McDonald’s are supposed to be identical. We visited the San Mateo location. Busier locations may have hotter and better food. The tiny McDonald’s by ATT Park in San Francisco seems a tad better than others.
Decor, Vibe – Typical McD’s decor and fast food vibe.

Pans:
Bacon & Cheese Angus Third Pounder ($3.95) – 740 calories, 100% Angus Beef, couple slices of cheese, 3 strips of bacon, red onion, pickle. Our burger did not look like the picture. Ours was medium-well, not juicy, and had the standard McDonald’s burger flavor. The bacon was thin and pretty average as was the cheese. Bun was big and average. We got this Angus burger without ketchup and mustard to ensure we got a freshly made one.
McDonald’s took our order fast and got us our food in about 2 minutes. The food is cheap and quality is average. Yes, the value is good at this price. We have reviewed many burger joints and almost every one will serve you a better hamburger. Pearl’s in San Francisco is a great example of a stellar burger. An easy way to judge if burger quality is if the restaurant asks you how you would like it done.

You guys got the wrong one. The mushroom and swiss is by far the best of the bunch and worthy of 4 stars.

Your burger was still not freshly made to cook the angus patty it takes about 4 minutes. The meat at Mcdonalds is all pre-cooked and rarely actually all that fresh. Also only one piece of canadian cheddar cheese

You arent right at all, I work at mcdonalds and all burgers are freshly made, although the meat is not. This burger is delicious. When the meat is cooked, there is no way to cook it less than how it is because it is a set timer on the grill and will be cooked the way it is. It has 2 peices of cheese, 3 pieces of red onion, the bun is soft and delicious, 3 pickles, the meat is thick and tasty, and there is only 2 pieces of bacon. The best burger on the menu by far and at the price you can’t afford not to eat one.

i am a manager at mcdonalds. ordering a sandwich without ketchup and mustard will not guarantee it is freshly made. it seems obvious that you cannot rate a sandwich accurately either unless it is a normal burger, not a special order. also, the freshness of the meat depends on what time you order it. for example if you come after lunch, chances are the meat is left over from our lunch reserves and has been cooked for a while. the holding cabinets continue to slowly cook the meat until it is sold. the taste is also not “standard mcdonalds taste”. the burger comes from a completely different place, as does the bun and we have special ingredients used only for angus burgers. angus burgers are about as far from mcdonalds standard taste as you can get. the only thing on the angus burgers that is the same as other mcdonalds burgers is the ketchup, mustard and cheese. nothing else is the same. you did not mention either that all angus burgers have around half the calories of a whopper. they are bigger burgers too and i would take an angus burger over a whopper any day.

Order this burger without a bun and it rings in at 540 calories, and probably the best protein per calorie ratio of any fast food burger.
