Haandi Restaurant is a moderately priced restaurant that specializes in North Indian Frontier cuisine and has locations in London, Nairobi, Kampala, Dar es Salaam & Sudan. They also do banquets and catering. It is is named after the narrow-necked cooking pots used in Northern Frontier Indian cuisine. Having been told how great Indian food was in London, we made our first meal Indian. We visited the Knightsbridge location, right near Harrods.

Decor, Vibe – Simple decor with the main entrance opening to a backstreet, Cheval Place. The other entrace is a small walkway down from the main street, Brompton Road. Big window open to kitchen, so you can see your food cooking. Some tourists and many locals were dining, with many races were represented in the dining room.

Picks:
Lamb Roganjosh (£10.50) Classic punjabi lamb curry with fresh tomatoes. Very aromatic, slightly spicy, and very good flavor. Lamb was vender tender and flakey, and not at all gamey.
Murg Kesari Korma (10.90) Boneless chicken in royal mild gravy made with almonds, yoghurt and saffron. Nice creamy curry sauce with tons of chicken. It was great they did not use coconut milk and kept it healthier. A little more saffron would have made it even better.
Pulao Rice (3.50) is a rice pilaf made with lightly seasoned broth. A nice change from plain rice, but not to drastic as there was no heavy spices or meat.
Naan (Buttered or plain) (2.30) was hot and very good. Huge piece we devoured rapidly making us order another one.
Tandoori Roti (2.10) Wholemeal bread was also hot out of the oven. Wheat based with some yogurt, it’s a little healthier than the naan.
OK:
Chicken Malai Tikka (9.90) Boneless Chicken, tandoored and served in a rich masala sauce. Masalas are prepared daily. Chicken was light, plain, and too low in quantity.
Pans:
None
Haandi Restaurant served up some good Indian food, better than the cuisine we have in the San Francisco Bay Area. The food came VERY quickly. It did take them a year to get us the check. We have no problems recommending this place. Haandi is a nice place to eat after seeing Harrods, the largest department store in London. Tube: Knightsbridge

If you’re still in London, I highly recommend Tayyab’s at WhiteChapel. They have great mango lassi, punjabi grilled meat that I salivate as I think of it. No where in SF has indian food of that comes close to Tayyab’s quality. In fact, I would fly to London just to have Tayyab’s.
