They have changed to doing Catering only, no more sales at this location.

Wood Fire Woodie is a cafe and pizza to go place in San Mateo’s Hillsdale Caltrain Station. It was started by a surfer chef and his friend. The serve coffee drinks, baked goods, salads, and sandwiches. 6 types of pizza are available, several vegetarian versions. Pizza is served Wednesday through Friday evenings. They also appear at San Mateo’s Farmers Market on Saturdays. The unique element is their retro mobile pizza oven trailer that looks like an old surfer vehicle. They use fresh, local, and organic ingredients.

Decor, Vibe – This Caltrain station is small, so it is more of a literal hole in the wall where you order and the Woodie oven outside. You pay inside and go outside where they heat up a slice. You can grab a soda and eat on the benches outside the station.

Picks:

Wood Fire Woodie San Mateo Duke Pizza

The Duke Pizza ($4 slice) – Buffalo Mozzarella, Organic Basil, Fresh tomato sauce was a pretty healthy sized slice that was sizzling. We had to pat off some grease. The crust was thin (Not wafer thin), crunchy, and very good. The cheese was decent but not outstanding. They definitely make pizza far better than post places. Didn’t really taste the basil.

Wood Fire Woodie San Mateo Hang Ten Pizza

Hang Ten Pizza ($4.50 slice) – Fresh local sausage, stockton red onion, fresh tomato sauce, three cheese blend made this pizza a little more substantial. The sausage had a pungent flavor and was of good quantity. Also very hot, having been quickly warmed up in the Woodie. A solid version of pizza in an offbeat location.

OK:
None

None

Wood Fire Woodie was pretty quiet, so they served us very fast. The pizza was very good and a pretty massive slice. This is a good place to go if you are in the area and seek some good thin crust pizza. Probably not worth a long drive though. Wood Fire Woodie is more of a to go place, so there are not many places to sit. They also have cook at home take n bake pizzas.
