Shiki Japanese Restaurant San Mateo Exterior

Shiki Japanese Restaurant is located in the San Mateo Whole Food shopping center, just off Highway 101. They have 2 other locations. They have an extensive menu with items from sushi to noodles to rice bowls. We tried them for dinner.

Shiki Japanese Restaurant San Mateo Interior

Decor, Vibe – Modern, clean but small location. Mostly locals who live nearby and some families were dining.

Picks:

Shiki Japanese Restaurant San Mateo Sashimi Combo

Sashimi Combo ($26.95) was very good. Many different types of fresh fish and good quantities. Best item we had at Shiki.

Shiki Japanese Restaurant San Mateo Hamachi Kama

Hamachi Kama ($12.95) was huge. A big piece of the collar plus a bonus piece attached. A little on the salty side, otherwise good.

Shiki Japanese Restaurant San Mateo Seafood Udon

Seafood Udon ($11.50) was good. Lots of mussels, scallops, squid and shrimp. Noodles were done just right.

OK:

Shiki Japanese Restaurant San Mateo Chicken Teriyaki Dinner

Chicken Teriyaki Dinner ($12.95) was pretty average. Lots of thinly sliced chicken. Sauce was fair.

Pans:
None

Shiki Japanese Restaurant had very good service with the servers coming by many times.
They had 15% off dinner from 5-7pm at this location only. Check and see if the promo is still on.
The food here is decent but not top notch. We’d rate this a step below nearby places like Hotaru and Sushi Sam.
