Barney’s Gourmet Hamburgers has been serving up burgers since 1978. They have 7 locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and 3 in Southern California. We visited the Steiner St location in San Francisco.
They use humanely raised Niman Ranch all natural ground chuck that is free of antibiotics or hormones. They serve beef, chicken, turkey, and veggie burgers along with salads.
Decor, Vibe – Clean modern decor with a back outdoor patio. Mostly people in their 20’s and 30’s were dining. Lots of locals.

Picks:
Barney’s Classic Burger ($7.75) with Natural Niman Ranch ground chuck flame broiled. Cheddar Cheese (+$0.85). The burger took about 10 minutes and was supposed to be cooked to a medium rare, but appeared with little redness in the middle. No very juicy.
It tasted slightly above average but with a tad more charcoal flavor than most. Bun and cheese were pretty average. Condiments were decent.
OK:
Sweet Potato Fries ($5) was huge, with tons of hot fries. They were preseasoned with pepper and were zestier that we would have liked.
Pans:
None
Barney’s Gourmet Hamburgers serves up an extensive menu of different kinds of burgers. The quality is good, a lot better than the usual fast food restaurants. They have a Kid’s menu.
We would rate this below the best burgers at places like Burgermeister, Custom Burger, Pearls, and Mos. Kids menu available.
