Tai Kee Won Ton 375 Saratoga Ave Unit H & J San Jose, CA 95129 (408) 224-8886 |
This small fast food like restaurant is located next to Hulu Ramen, one of the best Japanese noodle places in the SF Bay Area. It was slow during lunch time, less than half full. Service ok.
They have a very simple menu. 4 wonton / noodle soup dishes, several rice plates, and several noodle dishes with no soup to choose from. also have 7 or so small cold dishes to go with your noodle or rice dish. (cucumber salad with garlic sauce, bamboo shoot marinade, asparagus salad, braised egg, shredded braised tofu…)
The price of the main dishes are from $6.99 to $8.99. Not cheap for fast food, so if it satisfied our taste buds for comfort food, we’d go again.

Pan:
We ordered the Taiwanese wonton noodle soup ($7.99) with 10 pieces of wonton. Assuming wonton is their specialty, it IS in their name! It has very thin, almost transparent wrapper, but tasteless and kinda dry. the noodles are ok, but just ok. the broth is not bad, but we could whip that together in a jiff. Nothing special. Too pricy for the food. The portion is not big either.
Ok:
Another small plate: the stewed shredded pork on top of the dish is actually very tasty, if you can conquer the fear of visual of pork fat. They do not taste like fat, yet they melt in your mouth right away. They may have been stewed for a long time.
A hole in the wall worth going to only if Hulu Ramen is closed.
