Rather than create separate reviews for Yogurt places, this review will include all Yogurt place in one location. This fad will eventually tail off, so we will do our best to keep the major places reviewed.
Pinkberry in Los Angeles started the frozen yogurt craze and yogurt places have popped up since. Here are some of our favorites:
Yogurt Bar, San Francisco – Closed Late June 2008
fraiche yogurt, Palo Alto and San Francisco

Fraiche Yogurt opened in June 2007 to offer this type of dessert with all organic milk and a special probiotic-focused culture made on site to the SF Peninsula. San Francisco location opened September 2009. The place is a small store right off the upscale University Avenue shopping district. Fraiche Yogurt is clean and has a modern feel and is very busy at times. They use fresh-cut fruits, local honeys and purees, toasted nuts, homemade granola, and hand-shaved Callebaut chocolate as toppings.
Philosophy
The fat free organic frozen yogurt itself is a tad sour like that of several other places. Regular size ($3.95) was enough. It tastes good with toppings. Lots of topping options from berries to fresh shaved chocolate. They also have 98% fat free valrhona chocolate and 99% fat free, lactose-free soy yogurt.
While not special enough to be worth the drive, this place satisfy the yogurt need when you are in the vicinity.

Clear Optometry – fro-yo, San Mateo
Glasses and frozen yogurt? What a weird combination. Guess they are hedging their bets. This is a modern clean showroom/dessert place. They had regular tart and lychee flavored yogurt. Lots of topping options like flavored mochi.
The yogurt was decent, not top notch. Fruit toppings were good. Not worth the drive, but worth getting if you are nearby.

Yogurtouille, San Mateo
Yogurtouille is a yogurt shop near Talbots Toyland. They have 10 different self serve flavors ranging from tart, traditional creamy, sorbet, non-dairy, no sugar added, and over 30 different self serve toppings of fresh fruit, nuts, and sweets. For $0.35/oz, you can try a little of everything.
Lots of Self Serve Yogurt Flavors
Lots of Toppings
I would rate the quality of the yogurt lower than most others. Kids love this place because they can go crazy and make their dream creation full of candy. Our creations typically cost in the $3 area, making the pricing reasonable.

Yumi Yogurt
Yumi Yogurt has locations in many places. We tried the one in San Mateo. The serve ‘classic’ sweet yogurt and are famous for large quantities. The yogurt literally could fill a cup twice the size. There is nothing special about this yogurt other than quantities. This place gets busy in the summer.

Red Mango
Red Mango was one of the first chains to exploit the yogurt craze. They have locations in several states and began to appear in Northern California in Late 2008.
Toppings
Original
Pomegranate
The yogurt itself is a tad sour like that of several other places. Both the Original ($2.95) and Flavored Pomegranate ($3.95) were good. Not very sweet and a little tart. Lots of topping options from fruit to cereal to mochi. $1 for first topping, then 0.25 for next two. They also have drinkable yogurt blenders.
While not special enough to be worth the drive, this place satisfy the yogurt need when you are in the vicinity. We would rate it at the top with Fraiche.

Pinkberry
The original chain that started the fade. Pinkberry opened a store in the San Francisco Bay Area recently. They have original (Small $2.50, $3.95 w/toppings), pomegranate, and green tea flavors and include 2 toppings. We found the yogurt quality to be very good. We rate it right behind Fraiche. Fruit was fresh, granola was crunchy. Lines were running out the door. Smoothies are also available.

Nubi Yogurt
Nubi Yogurt is a new yogurt chain with locations in Northern and Southern California. We visited the Millbrae location. It is self serve and offers many different flavors of yogurt at a time. Ours had a whopping 12 different flavors. Topping variety is not as vast as Yogurtouille, but still decent. Yogurt quality was slightly above average, but on the sweet side and not as good as Pinkberry. The store was clean and modern.
