Why did we dine here? – Crown Princess is a top rated Chinese restaurant in Downtown Toronto. We were here for a couple of days and wanted to try several Chinese restaurants to see how they compared to the ones back in the San Francisco Bay Area.
This restaurant had very opulent decor with framed onyx adoring the walls and extremely fancy chandeliers and eloquent tableware. Clearly this place had more in common with Hong Kong than the San Francisco Bay Area.
Insider Tip – Come early as they sell out of some dishes like the Pork and Squab.
Cuisine – Chinese (Cantonese)
Location – Downtown Toronto
Opened – 2010
Service – Crown Princess was very good with a knowledgeable waiter who helped guide us through the extensive menu. No worries regarding refills or other needs.
Verdict – Crown Princess served up excellent Chinese food in beautiful surroundings. It lived up to our expectations of food as good and possibly better than the San Francisco Bay Area. We wish we had time to try their dim sum. The other restaurant we considered was Lai Wah Heen. Quality on the level of Koi Palace in the San Francisco Bay Area, and decor beyond it.
Crown Princess Signature Dishes – BBQ items, Crispy Chicken, Seafood
Crown Princess’s Menu features all the typical classics along with several more interesting dishes.
Crown Princess Food Picks:
Roasted Duck ($18 can) – possessed very good flavor and was definitely above average.
Crispy Chicken ($16 can) – came with lemon juice for dipping and a roasted garlic topping. Slightly dry although the flavors were spot on. Candied walnuts were excellent.
Baby Snow Pea with Garlic in supreme broth ($20 can) – was a very good version, but slightly salty. Lots of correctly cooked and fresh pea shoots.
Plain Noodle Soup ($16 can) – Nothing plain about this one. Classic rich flavors in the broth and silky egg noodles along with some Gai lan.
Complementary Mango Tapioca Dessert and Mini Baked Tart
